CBRE Global Investment Partners’ (GIP) Programmatic Venture in the UK student accommodation sector, Curlew Student Trust (CST), has capped off another successful year with both the fund’s selected investment manager and specialist student operator winning their categories at Property Week’s inaugural Student Accommodation awards held in London on 7th December.
The Student Accommodation awards celebrate the achievements of all those involved within the market and recognise the very best in student home-away-from-home life experience and excellence in design, innovation and social spaces of exceptional student housing. The inaugural awards followed the 9th annual Student Accommodation conference organised by Property Week; the UK’s largest and longest running event in the Student Accommodation sector.
CST’s investment manager, Curlew Capital won the award for Investor of the Year, reflecting the quality and speed of the investments made on behalf of CBRE GIP’s Programmatic Venture. CST was launched in December 2013 and has acquired 24 assets since this date with a gross development value of in excess of £650m.
The operator of student accommodation assets play a vital role in the marketing, letting and management of student assets. CST’s operator, Fresh Student Living, won operator of the year for their outstanding service, sustainable growth and continuous investment in technology and innovation. In addition, CST’s primary developer, Watkin Jones, was also nominated for Developer of the Year.
The awards not only heard from universities, private developers, policy makers, independent experts, investors and key consultants but from the end customers – students themselves – whose voice is not often heard, but who will ultimately decide on how successful a scheme is.
Overall, these awards are a testament to the confidence CBRE GIP had investing in the dynamic purpose built student accommodation market in the UK through a Programmatic Venture set up with an investment manager and operator that are recognised by the industry as being best in class
